Print Version

Sailing Resumes:

  1. New clients need to submit a sailing resume.
  2. Repeat guests are not required to submit another resume, with the exception of Seychelles.
  3. Night Sailing (if permitted): 2 Sailing Resumes (skipper/co-skipper) must be submitted to Moorings for approval.
  4. Racing with a bareboat: Any guest who wishes to race with a Moorings bareboat must indicate their intention to The Moorings and must fill-in a Sailing Resume.
  5. Base managers will have the right to put a skipper on a yacht if they feel the customer is not able to operate the yacht safely.
  6. All existing Moorings clients (guests who have sailed with The Moorings at least ones) are automatically approved to charter with Footloose or Moorings Power.

Charterer must have a Skipper if:

  • Experience is only on small boats (under 25 feet)
  • No experience in anchoring or chart work
  • Experience is basically power boating
  • Experience has been on (small) inland lakes only

Note: when a resume is questionable, Moorings Yacht Operations Manager should make the final decision as to whether a skipper is needed. Any «base assigned» skipper is at the charterer’s expense and, when necessary, should be stressed to the charterer so there are no surprises if the base decides that a checkout or full time skipper is needed.

Qualifications

  • If a charterer has had little or no anchoring experience, a check out skipper is necessary.
  • If a charterer has considerable crew experience, i.e. a minimum of 30 days per year, including the previous year, he may qualify to be a skipper (Level B), after a checkout skipper checks him out.
  • In cases where the abilities of the skipper are uncertain, it is necessary to ensure that the #2 mate has had enough sailing and skippering experience. This is to ensure that a boat is not chartered with a marginal skipper and an untrained crew.
  • Also, in cases of uncertainty, the age and time frame of charterer’s experience should be considered. A check out skipper is needed if an elderly charterer is relying upon experience from years before.
  • Finally, a skipper with lots of sailing experience may skipper any size yacht despite not having experience in similar size yachts. Someone who has been sailing since childhood and has continued to own yachts and sail throughout his adulthood would be a qualified skipper: Extensive powerboat or fishing (boat) experience with similar size boat is acceptable and should only require a check out skipper.
